Retreat
A light breeze moves across the bayou, sending gentle ripples to the shore. The scent of pine and peat lingers in the air. A bullfrog calls from somewhere hidden. There are few roads nearby. No reception. No urgency. Just the kind of silence that lets you hear yourself again—not the voice shaped by years of striving, but the one that knows you’ve been enough all along.
We find beauty in places like this—in the weathered planks of an old dock, in the milky haze of sun-fogged windows, and in the door that never quite shuts the same way twice. The Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—a way of seeing beauty in imperfection and time—reminds us to let these things be, just as they are. But how rarely we extend that same grace to ourselves.
Retreat is an invitation to do just that: to soften toward our own rough edges. To see the marks life leaves on us not as flaws to fix, but as proof we’ve lived. To stop striving for a version of ourselves that doesn’t exist, and simply rest in the truth of who we already are—weathered, whole, and perfectly imperfect.
About the Print
Created along a quiet stretch of bayou water, Retreat is available as a museum-quality fine art print through the Gallery.
Produced using archival materials to preserve the muted tones, weathered textures, and still surface of the surrounding water. Fine art paper prints are crafted on carefully selected archival papers, while metal and canvas options offer alternative presentations that bring depth and presence to the image.
Retreat is well suited for spaces meant for slowing down and resting — studies, reading rooms, bedrooms, and interiors where a sense of calm and reflection feels at home.
