Becoming
Just as silence in music makes the notes more profound, negative space in photography can help create meaning. It’s not just about what’s present. It’s also about what’s been intentionally left out. That space becomes part of the story, shaping how we experience the image. In this way, a photograph becomes less about things and more about relationships—between form and formlessness, light and shadow, stillness and movement.
This solitary bud, suspended in a field of white, feels both delicate and powerful. With nothing to distract our eye, we are invited to witness the graceful arc of the stem, the subtle gradients of vibrant color and the way light moves across each petal. In its simplicity, there is also anticipation. This bud holds the promise of what will one day be a fully unfurled dahlia. Yet, for now, it exists beautifully poised in this moment of becoming.
